Welcome to The Generation Connection

The Generation Connection is a one-week traveling day camp where active seniors and young people ages 8 to 12 participate in a variety of physical and educational activites designed to connect them to their community, the environment & each other.

TGC 8: July 12-16, 2010

"The Generation Connection LIVES!" said 64-year old 7-year veteran senior mentor Wes Corbett. We wrapped up our 8th annual camp at The Oak Room at Oak Hammock retirement community in Gainesville with a screening of this year's Clips of the Day, the winning tally of The Connection Cup, and the presentation of the "Blue Steel" awards (page coming soon!).

Wes also reflected on a few of the the outcomes that this year's camp provided its participants:

  1. "FUN.
  2. Non-stop activity within an organized and caring environment.
  3. Inclusion of all people of all ages and backgrounds.
  4. Seniors as mentors, role models and kids at heart.
  5. Acceptance of responsibility and development of leadership skills for junior counselors.
  6. Skill development for every camper in filming, interviewing, and framing video to create an authentic record of their experiences.
  7. Opportunities for every camper to grow by pushing themselves and challenging themselves physically and emotionally.
  8. An ethic that helping one another is the norm (the golden rule) and that expressing our gratitude to those who make a contribution is always done.
  9. An appreciation for the environment and the need to be actively involved in keeping our rivers and streams clean and pollution free."
